Two of the largest massage therapy companies in the United States are gearing up for battle in Canada. They plan to open hundreds of spas in Toronto and other cities, starting next month. Officials of Massage Envy, the largest U.S. message therapy operation - with 650 outlets - said they have staff in Toronto and B.C. looking for start-up locations. "We are the Tim Hortons of the therapeutic industry," said Massage Envy spokesman Perry Maisonneuve. "We are the largest and we work directly with colleges and universities to recruit therapists." Maisonneuve said his Scottsdale, Ariz., firm is opening spas in Ontario, Alberta and B.C. Their first Canadian salon will open January. "We are prepared for the Canadian market," he said from Arizona. "All our therapists are local and are fully licensed and trained." Officials of another chain, Massage Heights, of Calif., said they will be opening 125 locations in Canada during the next five years. The company has 55 locations in the U.S. One undisclosed firm - neither of the American companies - has asked federal immigration officials for permission to bring 1,400 message therapists from Thailand, according to immigration officials. This "could result in over 1,400 applications for work permit over the next four years," said Luc Le Francois, a program manager at the Canadian embassy in Bangkok. The recruitment of therapists has angered members of the Toronto's Adult Entertainment Association of Canada, who have accused Ottawa of shutting the door on exotic dancers. "We want to make sure these people are certified and screened by the government," said association spokesman Tim Lambrinos. "Ottawa is clamping down on exotic dancers but letting this group in."

If massage is considered competion to strip Clubs then so is television, night clubs and hotels. Perhaps who ask govt to outlaw sex except in his clubs.
